Arising is the first painting in Metabolize, a four-part series tracing the lifecycle of desire: Arising, Pursuit, Fulfillment, and Dissolution. The collection is rooted in my contemplative practice and a fascination with how phenomena move through us, how nothing holds still long enough to be grasped.
Arising captures the electric moment when desire first takes form. Pure potential, unrefined and alive. The brushstrokes move like impulses, converging yet unfinished, carrying the vitality of becoming. I chose acrylic and soft pastels because they hold both structure and instability on the same surface. Acrylic anchors. Pastels blur. Together, they create the tension of something emerging that has not yet decided what it is.
I hope collectors recognize that moment in themselves: the instant before wanting has a name, when something new is stirring, and the whole system is awake to it. Arising is an invitation to meet that spark before the mind rushes to contain it.

About the Artist
Rachel Weissman is an academically trained and practicing visual artist. Her education in drawing, painting, and design provided a strong foundation in form, color, and composition. Her ongoing art practice explores the more subtle terrain of awareness, perception, and presence. Rachel is also a certified meditation teacher with thousands of hours of practice. Her spiritual foundation draws on Advaita Vedanta, Hindu Tantra, and Tibetan Buddhism, and is further informed by contemporary psychological, somatic, and integral developmental approaches.
